Message Board and Account Help

Posting a Message To a Message Board

It's easy! Just follow the guidelines below:

  • Select the message board where you'd like to submit your message. We ask that you select only one message board to post your message, instead of posting the same message on multiple boards. This respects the time volunteers donate to the Web site when reviewing and replying to messages.
  • Click on "Post a Message" to submit a message to the message board

The message submission page will display next. Insert:

  • A descriptive title
  • Your message
  • Select an icon to reflect your message if you wish.
  • Preview your message to see how it will look once it’s posted to the message board, and, if necessary, make any corrections
  • Submit your message or
  • Skip the preview and submit your message directly to the message board

Remember, once your message has been submitted, you cannot edit or delete it. Be sure it says what you want it to say before submitting it.

Please do not include or use the following:

  • The names or contact information of other individuals. Please be very cautious about providing your own contact information.
  • The names or contact information of companies, businesses or other entities
  • Please use traditional grammar, punctuation as well as both upper and lower case letters rather than all CAPITAL letters to compose your message.
  • Insults, "flaming" or foul language
  • Copyrighted information

Take a moment to review the complete listing of our postingrules.

Your Account

Your account is completely under your control: you can update all or a specific piece at any time. Your account includes the following required information:

Email address: When an account is initially created our programming will automatically hide your email address to protect your identity. Should you wish others to know how to contact you directly, "uncheck" the related box or "recheck" it if you no longer wish it to be displayed. This email address is also the address we’ll use for private correspondence, such as resetting a forgottenpassword.

Display Name: This name is visible to the general public when you post a message or participate in a chat. If you change your display name, the change will be reflected in all your previous postings as well as any new messages.

User Name: You’ll use this name with your password selection to login to the Web site. This name is not “case-sensitive” (recognized only when you use exact capitals or punctuation) or displayed anywhere on the Web site.

Password: Along with your user name, your password is required to complete login. Passwords are case-sensitive.

Zip Code: Providing your zip code allows us to know which geographic areas have a large (or smaller) Internet usage. This information helps us to prioritize specific areas where we want to provide more helpful legal resources.

Optional Information:

City: If you'd like to tell us where you're located, feel free to do so.

State : Optional

Profile: A completed profile is accessible through your display name. Your profile should always contain your state location as well as:

  • Who you are. If you prefer, you need not mention your name; just give us a general description of your situation (for example: "injured worker struggling with workers’ comp system for last three years"). Please do not include your full name and contact information unless you wish it to be available to the general public.
  • If you're a lawyer or other professional, or have something else to offer, we've provided the profile for your contact information, including email, Web site address and so forth. General advertising or solicitation messages are not allowed as postings to our message boards.
  • How you got involved on the Internet
  • What you like, or perhaps dislike, about lawyers.com
  • Anything else you may want to tell a new acquaintance

Editing Your Account

You’ll need to:

  • Complete login
  • Select "Edit your Account" to display your account
  • Make the changes you desire to any portion of your account information including your display name, user name or password as well as profile
  • Click the "Save" button located at the bottom of the page
